Merchandise your site with highly targeted groups of products that take shoppers on a journey. Always keep your shoppers moving forward; keep them interested & engaged, so they don't click the back button.

On average, only 8% of product page traffic converts to a sale. The apparent reason is that the item they landed on did not match the expectations set forth by the promotional advertising that brought them to your site. It happens, but you have them on your page! So interest them with alternate items to the original product.

Offering alternate grouped products with swatched microimages higher up on the product page will help keep your shoppers moving forward. Don't leave it to chance that the shopper will scroll down to the bottom of a page to view 'product recommendations'.

About the App

    Merchandising Problem: Products with a great sell-through will be made again next season and the season after that until it stops selling. Retailers then have to decide whether to continue building out the same product in their storefront with possibly dozens of color variants or create a new product for each color.

    When a new color variant expands the same product record, many themes do provide color swatching capabilities. But along with that comes inflexible merchandising. For example, you can't break out clearance-priced colors from regular-priced merchandise. Nor can you separate products from their groups when popular sizes are sold out.

    Solution: When a store opts to keep products simple by building only one variant per product, e.g., size, a second variant like color becomes a new product in the storefront admin.

    Product Groupings & Swatches+ allows you to group, ungroup products with the most remarkable ease, or delete a single product from a group in seconds. You can even move products to another group, and the app will carry the swatch with it.

    Product Groupings & Swatches+ makes merchandising a breeze.

Manual Instructions for Adding / Removing the Product Groupings & Swatches+ Elements on Collection and Product Pages

Some knowledge of liquid coding and HTML is necessary to complete this. If you need help, then you can make a request with us and we will be happy to insert it into your theme.

The Product Groupings & Swatch elements are generated from two code snippets that will be automatically installed in your theme. You can check for their existence by following these steps:

  1. Open the Administration portion of your store.
  2. Click on ‘Online Stores’ on the left panel.
  3. Whether you have some knowledge or no knowledge, the following steps are relatively easy to complete. But, it is first recommended that you make a backup copy of your theme right now. It is easy to do:

    a.) Simply pull down on the ‘Actions’ element and click ‘Duplicate’.

    This will be your reference for how the theme is working exactly at this point. If something goes wrong, simply ‘Publish’ this backup and it will demote the current version of the store and move the backup into production. You will have both to work from going forward. This is a very important feature that a lot of store owners overlook.

  4. In your ‘Current theme’ section you will see ‘Actions’ and ‘Customize’. Click the pull down on ‘Actions' and select ‘Edit code’.
  5. Here you will be presented with the ability to Edit code for your theme. You will see folders and files in the column immediately to the right of the store administration panel. Locate the ‘Snippets’ folder and single-click on it.
  6. Within the snippets folder check to see if there are 2 files listed: product-style-grouping-app.liquid & product-style-grouping-grid.liquid If they are listed, great! If not then we have a couple more steps. And, if you are removing any traces of the app from your code then these two files can be deleted after you deleted the app from the apps section of the store administration.
  7. If the files are not there then we will need to create both of them them. Click “Add a new snippet” just below the Snippets folder. Copy and paste the following name into the “Create a new snippet called” field: product-style-grouping-app.liquid Next, click the ‘Create snippet’ button.
  8. A new blank tab should have appeared to the right of the files menu. There should only be one line signified by ‘1’ appearing in the narrow column to the right of the files column. If you see more lines or text, be sure you created a new file with the correct name in step 6. To the right of the ‘1’ paste the following 58 lines of code and then click save:

    Download the product-style-grouping-app.liquid file and open in a text editor.

  9. We will now need to create product-style-grouping-grid.liquid in exactly the same way we did in step 6 above.
  10. We will paste the following 87 lines of code into the snippet we created in step 8:

    Download the product-style-grouping-grid.liquid file and open in a text editor.

  11. Next, locate where on the product page you want to insert the Product Grouping & Swatches + element. Please note that every theme is coded differently but they all follow basic rules in order to render their code properly. So, if this step becomes too difficult, feel free to send us a note saying you would prefer us to install this part of the code for you.
    1. The product page template typically lives in the ‘Sections’ folder and is called something like ‘product-template.liquid’. Other themes are different, the file is sometimes called ‘product-form.liquid’ and is located under ‘Snippets’. Other themes may vary even from this so, you may have to look around. You will know you have the correct file when you see a section in the middle that references product-price and following that are taxes_included and/or shipping_policy. i.e.

      You can copy and paste the following 3 lines of code into the file similar to how they are displayed in the graphic above:

            {% if content_for_header contains '' %}
            	{% render 'Product-Style-Grouping-App' %}
            {% endif %}

      As long as you don’t move code sections around or, delete anything, you can experiment by moving these 3 lines of code around to try different locations on the page.

    2. Click 'Save' and you can preview your theme with the button at the top. See if the swatch container is rendered in the location you desire. Other adjustments like size, shape, margin, font sizes are all managed within the Product Groupings & Swatches+ app under settings.

      Note: If you haven’t done so already it would be best to go into the Product Groupings & Swatches+ app and make a grouping with a couple products and swatch them. Make sure that the grouping is active. o into Settings and turn on the app so the swatches can become visible in your theme.

  12. To install the Product Groupings & Swatches+ element on the collection page we need to locate another liquid file. In all the free themes that are offered, this file lives in the ‘Snippets’ folder. But all the themes have a slightly different name for the file we are looking for: product-grid-item.liquid, product-card-grid.liquid, product-card.liquid, and product-card-list.liquid are the names this writer knows about. Locate a file with a similar name. The file contains the product elements that will be repeated in a collection template. We will be inserting the following lines of code into the grid item to render the swatches similar to the way they are represented in the example image.

    {% if content_for_header contains '' %}
                        {% assign theProductId = %}
                        {% render 'Product-Style-Grouping-grid' theProductId: theProductId%}
                        {% endif %}
  13. After locating the file, paste the following lines of code into the grid item between the image and title. If you prefer it in another location it is fine to move this code around.
